How to Obtain an Italian Carta d'Identita?

After you received your Permesso di Soggiorno, you can now begin to obtain your Italian Carta d'Identita (National Identity Card).

Step 1
Go to a posta (Comune office which is in the same building with PosteItaliane at Via Pietrapiana), press letter "F" on the ticket machine, wait until an "F" number is called, and say you want to obtain your Carta d'Identita.

Bring all of your following documents to show to the Comune officer :

Your documents :
Permesso di Soggiorno
Passport
4 pieces of '3x4' size of your recent photograph
Codice Fiscale
Health/Travel Insurance
Marriage certificate (translated into multi-languages including Italian, the translation version must be issued not older than 1 year)

Bring also your copy and original of your husband's documents:
Codice Fiscale
Passport
Carta d'Identita
Job contract
Rental contract and blueprint/map of the house which is registered/legalized by an Italian law firm.
His travel insurance / Health insurance

Attention :

The Comune officer at a posta/PosteItaliane will help you to fill 2 forms based on your documents: the Datore di Lavoro and the Dichiarazione di Residenza.
The officer will make a call to the Registry office/ Uffizzi d'Anagrafe to set an appointment for you in about 2 weeks or 1 month later at the Registry office for an interview, submitting all the above documents and to check whether all of your documents are credible.

The Comune officer will give you a form with your appointment date and time written on it. Bring this form when you do step 2 along with all of the documents listed above.

Step 2
Show up at the Registry Office/Uffizzi d'Anagrafe on the appointed date and time. Go to the front desk, get your waiting list number. When your number is called, meet the appointed officer and say you want to obtain a Carta d'Identita.

Submit the copy of these documents

Permesso di Soggiorno
Passport
Datore di Lavoro form
Dichiarazione di Residenza form
Codice Fiscale
Marriage certificate (translated into multi-languages including Italian, the translation version must be issued not older than 1 year)

Submit other documents only if they ask you to do so.

The Registry officer will issue a receipt, it's a piece of A4 paper of 'pratica di transferimento della residenza', with your name and your address, signed by L'Ufficiale d'Anagrafe.

Note :
Always keep your original documents with you. Always ready by having 2 copies of each document.
Ask for name, phone number and email address of the Registry officer who receives your documents, this is important for you so you can ask about the progress of your Carta d'Identita in case it has not ready after 45 days.

Step 3
Normally after 2 months, you can collect your Carta d’Identita at the Registry Office/Uffizzi d'Anagrafe at via Madonna della Tosse near the piazza della Liberta by showing the following documents :

a receipt 'pratica di transferimento della residenza'
Passport
4 pieces of 3x4 size of your recent photograph
a "Marco da Bollo" (tax tamp) from any Tabacchi (Tobacco Shop) around town. They cost 14,62 euros.
And money to pay for the processing fee of EUR 150.-
