How to Get Your Italian Stay Permit / Permesso di Soggiorno?

If you have questions about what Permesso di Soggiorno is, you can read it in my previous post.
Let’s have a look now on how to get it.

If your reason in Italy is due to your marriage with an EU citizen (non-Italian) who lives or works in Italy like I do, here are steps you need to take in order to get your PdiS:

Step 1
Your husband must first get his job in Italy and his job contract.

Step 2
Your husband must have an Italian tax code/codice fiscale. He can apply for an Italian Codice Fiscale at the Provincial Tax Office by submitting his passport and his job contract.

Step 3
He should have a local address whether a rented house or an apartment which proof by a rental contract that is legalized/registered by an Italian Law Firm. In order to get a house contract registered by an Italian Law Firm, you need to ask your landlord to do so.

Step 4
If your husband is from the European Union and staying in Italy for a period longer than 90 days, he has to iscriversi all'Anagrafe (register himself at the Registry office / Uffizzi d'Anagrafe) to legally stay in Italy.
Within 8 days of arrival in Florence, your husband must go to a posta (Comune office which is in the same building with PosteItaliane at Via Pietrapiana), press letter "F" on the ticket machine, wait until an "F" number is called, and ask for the "ATTESTAZIONE DI RICHIESTA DI ISCRIZIONE ANAGRAFICA DI CITTADINODELL’UNIONE EUROPEA" form to the officer,

Submit all the following documents :

Your husband's documents:
Codice Fiscale
Passport
3 passport size recent photograph
Job contract
Rental contract and blueprint/map of the house which is registered/legalized by an Italian law firm.
His travel insurance / Health insurance
Marriage certificate (translated into multi-languages including Italian the translation version must be issued not older than 1 year)

Your documents :
Passport

Attention :

With these documents, the Comune officer at a posta/PosteItaliane will issue 3 forms which will be filled by the officer: the "ATTESTAZIONE DI RICHIESTA DI ISCRIZIONE ANAGRAFICA DI CITTADINODELL’UNIONE EUROPEA" form, the Datore di Lavoro and the Dichiarazione di Residenza for your husband.

The officer will call the Registry officer/ Uffizzi d'Anagrafe for an appointment, the appointment is for your husband to meet one of the officer at the Registry office for an interview, submitting all your documents and to check whether his documents are credible.

Step 5
After 1 month, your husband can get his Carta d’Identita at the Registry Office/Uffizzi d'Anagrafe at via Madonna della Tosse neat the piazza della Liberta by submitting following documents :
Passport
4 passport size of his recent photograph
a "Marco da Bollo" (tax tamp) from any Tabacchi (Tobacco Shop) around town. They cost 14,62 euros.
